Macbeth

by William Shakespeare
directed by A.M. Charlens

Director's Note

Shakespeare wrote Macbeth, the last of his four greatest tragedies, with many of the same elements as Hamlet; such as darkness, ghosts rising from the dead, supernatural powers and omens. Macbeth, who does not have the breadth to laugh at himself as does Hamlet, is a man of action subject to reflection after the deed.

My attempt is to adhere strictly to the text, with minor cuts. Macbeth, being a much shorter play, by line count, focuses almost entirely upon the main plot. Shakespeare compresses word and deed to foment assassination, cover-up, betrayal, awash in a flood of blood. I hope you enjoy our production and please accept my personal thanks for your support. A.M. Charlens Ph.D C del C.

Two Gentlemen of Verona

by William Shakespeare
directed by Christoper R

Director's Note

Scholars agree The Two Gentlemen Of Verona was one of Shakespeare's first plays. The subject and the style were heavily influenced by the highly successful Italian Commedia Dell'Arte. These influences can be evidenced in the simplicity of plot, stock characters, and the role of servants as plot operatives.

To complete these influences and to pay homage to the art form we have added masques, and the broader acting styles of

Commedia Dell'Arte.
